It's VD!!! -With the Avengelyne Swimsuit Edition #1

Yes, I know the Rob Liefeld cover is a swipe of Niki Taylor from some 1995 Calendar... so what?  I always have defended Liefeld- and as an amateur "artist" myself: I defend working from photographs, "swiping", and even tracing... Know who else does? Legendary comic book artist Neal Adams!

-Listen to him on Kevin Smith's Fatman on Batman podcast as he lays it alllllllll out for you. -It's amazing. I've never heard it put better: http://smodcast.com/episodes/neal-adams-kneel-before-neal/
It's towards the end of it- if you're just looking for that part specifically... around 52 minutes in.  But if you have the time- this is a gripping three-part discussion with the man about all kinds of things.  Including creating Green Lantern- John Stewart,  helping Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, The X-Men, and of course- his work on Batman.

...

Anyways- on with the subject of today's post: Rob Liefeld created Avengelyne, along with former Vampirella convention model; Cathy Christian- with her also being the model for the character, because... well, because like any other guy who saw her dressed as Vampi back in the day- he probably wanted to fuck her:

For this Valentine's Day posting- *I* have invented time-travel, my Mental Organisms!  That's right!  -And I have used it to travel back to August 1995 to get this review of the Avengelyne: Swimsuit Edition from a then 16-year-old me, alone in my room... ENJOY!

So, the story starts of with:

~Fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap...

And then, because of course; tentacles:

...fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap...

-But then, on page 13:

...fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfap......

-And things take an interesting turn on page 14 and 15 when:

...fapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfap......

-Could not believe it when this happened:

Twist ending- that's not a swimsuit at all!:

...
......
...oh, well- fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap-

-fap fap fap fap fap fap fap fap...

...fap fap fap fap fapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfap......

So, in conclusion:

...fapfapfapfapfapFAPFAPFAPFAP FAP FAP FAP

FAP   FAP   FAP      FAP         FAP            FAP-FFFFUUUUUU...

...

In all seriousness: Cathy Christian is beautiful- and I had SUCH a crush on her back in those no-internet days, but most of her photos in this are... not very good.  And most of the bathing-suits they have her in are not flattering.  Terrible photographer here, too...  I even remember being disappointed back in 1995 at how unsexy her shots were.
Come on- she was Vamprella for Christ's sake!:

I mean- Avengelyne's regular outfit is more revealing then the swimsuits she has on in this special!:

-Put Cathy Christian in some bikinis more like these artists drew, you know?  I appreciate one of these spank errr, uhhh- I mean "swimsuit" specials having a REAL WOMAN to oogle at for once... but they could have tried a lot harder than this:
"I'm not even supposed to be here today."

Allegedly Liefeld is trying to get an Avengelyne movie made- again- and he wants MMA bad-ass, former American Gladiator: Crush, and should-have-been-cast-as Wonder Woman: Gina Carano to play her!

UPGRADE.

  1. Carrano would make a great Wonder Woman but there's other DC characters she would be cool as http://suicidesquadtaskforcex.blogspot.com/2012/05/ok-dale-heres-my-gay-posting-for.html

she was the only good thing about Haywire it would be great to see her in a good movie.

    1. I can see that... but December 4th 2013 was the day that Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman because executives said "Get the chick from Fast & Furious 6!" and some confused dumb-ass called HER instead of Gina Carano... I hope he was sacked. -Or is at least the first against the wall when the revolution comes!

  2. Didn't Liefield wind up marrying one of those models? I could've sworn he did. You're probably one of the few Pro-Liefield guys around this neck of the woods, so you have my condolences on that.

Fap-a-mania used to run wild during those years. Damn that art! Tis why I bought issue of the blatant WW-knock off Glory back in the day. Dat ass.....and titties

But I commend you on redeeming yourself with such an interesting post topic. Damn what an era huh?

If you still own those, then surely like me, you still own a copy of Homage Studios, Wildstorm or Top Cow studios swimsuit issues. You know you do, don't front dude:)

I'm with Shlomo about Carrano being cast as WW. She's built like she could kick your ass, but then also let you play with hers if the mood was right.

Shlomo having a gay post finally? About time buddy. I figure living all that time in San Fran would eventually do it do you. I'm proud of you for finally coming out. Awesome. LOL!

    2. Without doing any research to verify or disprove it- I'ma say: Yes, I'm pretty sure he did! Unless it's one of those weird comic-book urban legends... I remember hearing that too, though- back in the day.
If you have not noticed- I tend to take up defending the minority opinion... I firmly believe Liefeld is one of three artists (along with McFarlane and Lee) who, without; comics would have faded into nothing- or at least been an entirely different animal then they are now. They injected a new wave of talent, creativity, and mainstream attention while standing up for themselves, taking a stand for others, and changing the industry for the better- period. Sure- you can say something bad about any of them, contrariwise and in retrospect- but you can't take what they did away from them, you know? ...and I'll never not respect them for it. Sure, none of them are my favorites- but I don't think any of them suck- and I, along with everyone else; was super into them at the time. Anyone who says they weren't is a damn liar- Liefeld sold more books than God.

Fap-A-Mania ='s The "Bad Girl" Craze! Ass, titties, ass and titties... Ass, ass, titties, titties, ass and titties... I have both Avengelyne/Glory issues. I have everything Avengelyne- I was a huge fan...... don't know why.

Glory was made awesome as fuck in the relaunch/revamp by Joe Keatinge & Ross Campbell recently. If you never did- you owe it to yourself to check that run out. -What they did was fucking magical.

I did have the Homage Swimsuit Issue... not the other two, though. Like the one featured here- they were far less interesting than the Marvel Swimsuit Issues were... which I also had. -Things were weird before the internet, right?

Carano is not just built like a sexy ass-kicker... she actually is one!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONhGfJS7LmI

And Shlomo- 2012, eh? Sounds like you are way overdue for a new Gay Post!

  3. LOL nice post mr - It made me laugh all the way through. I haven't seen that b&w Vampirella photo since I was a teenager! She's now at Avatar with Hellina from the old Lightning Comics to huh? I always got them confused as they wore pretty much the same piece of cotton.

Must be the year for 90's bad-girl movies... Everette Hartsoe is putting out the first concept art for Razor too. I thought that would never get a green light being so close to The Crow, but live n learn.

    1. Thank you- and as always: Thanks, everyone- for commenting! I was out-of-state the past few days... always good to come home to some comments.

She was at Avatar for awhile, yes- she is back in her own not-so-pervy-as-all-that title at Image Comics that follows the Maximum Press continuity now... It was online only for awhile- now it's all in print. I'm not super-crazy for the art-work, unfortunately... The Liefeld covers are nice though! But, yeah- her "piece of cotton" Avatar-costume was pretty nice as well...

I've been following the new Razor stuff in my videologs... and for some reason it looks like Mr. Hartsoe has deleted all his videos about his Kickstarter-funded comic-relaunch; Razor: Scars... (I'm just finding out about this- I was going to link you)
-As a long-time fan: I was unhappy with how he handled that whole project, though... And I've been hoping for the movie since the 2009 teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKKhspJ8QgE
